Hello,
My name is Tomas O’Shaughnessy, I am a graduate student in the Library and Information studies program at the University of Ottawa. This website was completed as part of ISI 6995 Capstone Experience course. The purpose of this website is to act as a portfolio for highlighting some of the knowledge and competencies acquired while studying in the program.
I initially envisioned a career working in an academic or special library setting, however, my experience in the program shifted me away from librarianship and more towards a role working in information management. I am currently working as IM program specialist at the Department of National Defence and hope to continue working in more IM roles in the future. The shift mentioned is discussed in further detail in my career plan. In addition to the career plan, I have also inserted a SWOT analysis which examines areas where I believe I have strengths, and others where I believe there is room for improvement.
Site Organization
The website is broken down into three high level pages, the introduction page is where you are currently, the second page is the knowledge and competencies page which contains a series of post that highlights some of the knowledge and competencies gained during the program. The categories menu on the right of the page allows for filtering based on some of objectives outlined in the rubric. The third page is the projects page which is meant to highlight areas of personal interest related to the program, in this area I discuss some of the ways information management can add value to an organization.
