hello!
I’m Natalie Samson.
Welcome to my MIS portfolio!
This website features a selection of the work I produced as a graduate student in the School of Information Studies (ÉSIS) at the University of Ottawa. It’s a representation of what I’ve learned over the course of the program as well as a reflection on my professional identity as I begin my career.

A little
about me >
I’m a curious person. It’s a quality that has served me well as a graduate student in Information Studies at the University of Ottawa. It drives me to find creative solutions, to connect with others, and to listen with care.
I’ve also put those skills to good use during two co-op terms as an assistant reference librarian at the Supreme Court of Canada (where I continue to work part-time with the reference and research team). Raised to believe that volunteering is a civic duty, I have pitched in as a virtual reference operator with the Ontario College Library Service, a reading buddy and homework tutor at the Ottawa Public Library, a clerk at a grassroots LGBTQIA library in Guelph, and a crisis line operator at a women’s shelter.
Before diving into the world of Information Studies and librarianship, I spent 15 years as a journalist and editor. In my previous career, I chased information to shape it into stories that inform, inspire, and entertain. Now, I’m getting a peek behind the curtain into how that information is made, managed, accessed, and preserved.
When I’m not doing schoolwork or sitting behind the reference desk in a stately old courthouse, I’m probably drinking a very strong cup of coffee, listening to a podcast, or building chair-forts with my preschooler (maybe even all three at the same time).
