When thinking of what professional values matter most to me, two things come to mind: lifelong learning and information for all.

Lifelong learning

Having spent the majority of my adult life pursuing post-secondary studies, it should come as no surprise that I am a staunch advocate for lifelong learning. To me, the drive for discovery is one of humanity’s greatest ambitions and the driving force for improvement and change. On an individual level, I also think that the moment we stop learning is the moment we stop growing as individuals.

Information for all

I believe deeply in making data and information as open as possible. The more we can share with one another, the more we can collectively benefit and generate new discoveries. Similarly, I think that accessibility is an important consideration in order to make information for all.

I also believe that the challenge of our time is battling fake news. I feel strongly about this and wrote an Ethics Opinion on it.
