Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of effective communication. Being able to relate to someone and understand what their needs are is an important part of communication.

Knowing when to listen to what others have to say is just as important as knowing what to say. Being respectful and having a good attitude can also go a long way. This applies when speaking with a colleague about a project, helping a student with an assignment, emailing a professor for more information, or delivering a presentation to a class.

Communication can come in many forms. As a student in the Master of Information Studies program at the University of Ottawa, I have written dozens of papers and delivered many individual and group presentations. As a Data Analyst at the University of Ottawa Library, I have offered workshops, created a research guide from scratch, given tours to new library users, and delivered presentations to classes. I have had to communicate in English and French basic to complex concepts to a diverse group of users of varying experience and knowledge. This has helped me develop my writing, presenting, and interpersonal skills.

In the Writing Skills and Presentation Skills sections below, you can explore a sampling of the work I have done in the past few years as both an MIS student and a Data Analyst at uOttawa.
