For this research project I take a look at how ancient Athenian’s place importance on the connection they hold to their ancestor’s and family members after they have passed. This project involved examining the known traditions of the ancient Greeks, as well as an examination of their grave Stelae, which include artistic depictions of their loved ones.
For this research project, I look at how the ancient Greek tradition of athletic competitions was more then just a sport. Competing was done in sanctuaries, and athletes would strive to impress their gods as well as intimidate potential adversaries in the event of a war. By analyzing the way in which athletes would prepare themselves and compete, I was able to deduce some of the potentially unsaid messages they were trying to impart.
This project involved an examination of how negotiations took place in colonial North America, specifically between the British Colonies and the Iroquois Confederacy. An interesting discovery during this project was that vulnerable early colonies had to conduct negotiations to survive against overwhelmingly superior Indigenous groups, and the balance of power had not shifted at this point in history.
This was a project I enjoyed very much as it is a look into the life of an individual in early colonial North America. By examining the objects she left in her will, I was able to gain insight into her life, and how she may have lived.
