Welcome to my iPortfolio dear reader! My name is Akkad Dawood and I am a graduate from the Master’s of Information Studies (MIS) program at the University of Ottawa. I originally completed a Double Major in History and Greek & Roman Studies at the same institution but my love for reading and information motivated me to pursue my current degree.

I have many passions and they have lead me across multiple paths. Some of those include: Archivist, Archeologist, Ice Hockey Coach, Lifeguard, and Researcher. I find that anything can be interesting if there is an appreciation for it. That is one of the main reasons why I am very passionate about libraries. Many years of my youth were spent in public libraries and I would read for hours without stopping. Anything from novels, to documentary books, and even comic books; my appetite knew no bounds. It is thanks to all that reading that I managed to be where I am today and I want to be a part of the next generation of people who promote literacy.

Information is constantly evolving and there are new ways that people learn and acquire new knowledge. Even though it comes with its own set of risks, one of my aspirations is to be at the forefront of policy making to ensure that a better future is ahead. One where literacy enables us to combat foreign actors and radicals who try to colluding with our democratic way of life. One where misinformation and disinformation campaigns fail to launch because the people are knowledgeable to the point where they can look at content, understand it, then make a reasonable deduction on their own. I know I sound very optimistic when I speak about this, but hope for a better future is what will bring us there.

My current goal is to continue the work that I currently do in the government as an Information Management Administrator and eventually land myself a position as a librarian. I’ve been working in the federal government since 2020, and I’ve enjoyed the type of work I do. However, I know that I need to grow and go beyond my current limits; especially if I believe in my worth as an information professional.
