David Brown

Information Management Specialist

Welcome to my iPortfolio! I’m an aspiring information management (IM) specialist currently completing my Master of Information Studies (MIS) at the University of Ottawa. Over the past two years, I developed my identity as an IM professional through a combination of academic coursework, professional co-op placements, and personal reflection. This iPortfolio showcases my growth, my applied skills, and my vision for contributing to the evolving field of information governance and digital stewardship.

About Me

My journey began with a passion for education. I initially set out to become a high school teacher, which was a natural direction for me given that many people in my family are educators. I always loved being in classroom settings, surrounded by curiosity, discussion, and the excitement of encountering new ideas. Learning and knowledge-sharing are part of who I am. I chose to study history because it’s fascinating, and I wanted to deepen my understanding. History remains a personal passion that I will never stop exploring.

My Path

What’s especially interesting about my path is that I started by studying the past, but now I’m focused on emerging technologies and future societal trends. I discovered that information studies is a field that is constantly evolving. It’s a discipline that demands curiosity, flexibility, and a continuous commitment to learning, qualities I naturally thrive on. I found my passion in IM, where I can make a meaningful impact by helping people organize, understand, and access information in ways that support transparency, collaboration, and innovation.
